Received a dunning notice from novavitalia.de? What you must do – and not do – now
Summary
Why is this warning issued?
This warning has been included because it is based on a report from Watchlist Internet. It is intended to protect other users from this fraud scheme. The assessed risk is elevated.
How the scam works
- Scammers send you a dunning notice by email and claim that you have taken out an annual subscription with novavitalia.de
- They demand 239 euros plus a 5 euro dunning fee
- If you complain, they claim that the subscription conclusion via your specific email address is documented – including a waiver of the right of withdrawal
- If you withdraw, they threaten you with a high 'compensation for the provision of access' – regardless of whether you have used the offer or not
- The scammers rely on the shock effect: many those affected are supposed to pay out of fear
- The perpetrators are presumed to be using a large dataset with contact details and are writing to all the addresses
How to recognise it
- You unexpectedly receive a dunning notice by email from a provider you do not know
- An annual subscription of 239 euros plus a 5 euro dunning fee is claimed
- In the event of a withdrawal, an alleged 'compensation for the provision of access' is demanded
- The letter contains an old postal address, an old family name or an incorrect IP address
- Behind the domain is Margot Brands Limited, based in Hong Kong
- A similar scheme also operates via domains such as bongochat.de, novachatai.io, novamenstruhilfe.de, novaerektionshilfe.de or swissnovacare.com
- Winnings without participation or a 'free' offer involving a request for data
- Advance payment demanded for 'fees/taxes'
How to protect yourself
- If you have not taken out a subscription: Do not pay anything
- Reject the payment demand in writing (for example by email or letter)
- Secure all evidence: screenshots of the emails, the website and the legal notice
- Only react if an official letter from a court arrives – not to further dunning notices or debt collection agencies
- If in doubt, contact the Verbraucherzentrale (consumer advice centre) or file a report with the police
What you should never do
- Do not simply pay the amount demanded
- Do not click any links in the dunning emails and do not download any attachments
- Do not disclose any further personal data over the phone or by email
- Do not be intimidated by threats of bailiffs or seizure
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay the 239 euros?
If you have not taken out a subscription with novavitalia.de, you do not have to pay. Only those who knowingly commit to making payments enter into a paid contract.
What happens if I do not respond?
Further payment reminders or dunning notices from debt collection agencies can be ignored after a written rejection. A debt collection agency has no special legal powers. Only an official letter from a court requires a response.
Where did they get my data?
This is not yet known. The assumption is that the perpetrators have obtained a large dataset with contact details. In some cases, the information no longer matches – for example, old postal addresses or old family names.
Is the website novavitalia.de legal?
According to Watchlist Internet, the website meets the formal legal requirements for provider identification. However, this does not mean that the dunning notices are justified. Anyone who has genuinely not taken out a subscription does not have to pay.
What should I do now?
Secure all evidence, reject the demand in writing and contact the Verbraucherzentrale (consumer advice centre) or the police to file a report.
